EREH Special Issue in Honour of Stephen Broadberry on Long-Run Economic Growth
Guest Editors: Jason Lennard and Victoria Gierok
Deadline for Submissions:
The European Review of Economic History is pleased to announce a special issue on long-run economic growth in honour of Stephen Broadberry on the occasion of his retirement. Over more than four decades, Steve's research has shaped how economic historians measure, compare, and explain economic performance over the long run. His work on historical national accounts, sectoral and aggregate productivity, the British growth record, and the timing and origins of the Great Divergence has been widely influential, and continues to open productive avenues for future research.
This special issue therefore invites contributions that engage with and extend these themes. We welcome papers across the full geographical and chronological range of economic history, including but not limited to:
- New estimates of GDP, output, or productivity at the national, regional, or sectoral level;
- Comparative analyses of long-run growth trajectories within Europe and between Europe and other world regions;
- The structural, institutional, and human-capital foundations of productivity change;
- Accounting for the Great Divergence and the timing of Little Divergences within Europe and Asia.
Papers may be submitted by any scholar working on the issue's themes. All submissions will follow the regular refereeing process of the journal.
Papers should be submitted by via the journal's submission portal: https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ereh, indicating that the submission is for this Special Issue. For guidelines on preparing manuscripts, please see the Instructions to Authors page.
